Welcome to my ePortfolio,
As a preservice teacher I realize that my opinions and perceptions of what constitutes good teaching are heavily influenced by my idealism and inexperience; however, while I may lack seasoning in this most noble profession, my intention is to use the skills and knowledge gained through my education to become the best teacher I can. My experiences with the faculty at Dixie State University, both within the English and Education departments, have impressed upon me the significance of good teaching and it is my hope to live up to the standard of excellence they have established.
There have been several teachers who have made lasting impressions on me throughout my education. All were dedicated, hardworking teachers who utilized their individual strengths and creativity to reach their students. I believe I will be an effective educator because I will always try to follow the example set by those amazing educators. I believe the combination of flexibility, patience, humor, and focus, all in the proper balance, will allow me to guide my students to achieve their academic goals.
My personal motto is “lead by example.” Understanding that leadership and mentoring begin with one’s own attitude and behavior is essential to maintaining the proper educational atmosphere. I understand that adaptability is fundamental – some situations require seriousness and focus while others call for indulgence and humor. Yet in every situation professionalism must be maintained. I will strive to set a positive educational example for my students with the goal that they will find as much joy and satisfaction in learning that I always have.
