My
Philosophy of Education
I believe the primary goals of education are to cultivate the students’ gifts and talents through the acquisition of knowledge and to prepare students to be functional, responsible members of society. This requires key elements from both student and teacher: respect, motivation, and willingness to work.
While each child is a unique individual, I believe all children share the need for a secure and stimulating environment in which to grow and learn. It is my goal as a teacher to help students meet their potential by providing an environment that is safe, respectful, and invites a sharing of ideas. A safe learning environment where all students are comfortable to speak out loud and contribute their thoughts is essential.
As teachers, we must motivate our students to learn by keeping instruction relevant and engaging. Teachers are guides for students, and we must help each student find internal goals that they can try to reach. We must constantly evaluate our methods and adapt them according to our students’ needs, while always keeping their best academic and personal well-being in mind.
Each student is different, and we must be prepared to teach a diverse classroom with different needs and interests. It is the student’s responsibility to bring with them a willingness to learn and an attitude conducive to education. With these roles for the student and teacher specified, educators must meet their obligations in the classroom by preparation and appropriate methods. I believe that the methods used are the most important factor in education. Teachers must use methods that are interesting for the individual yet effective for the entire class.
Teachers are role models both within the classroom and within the community. Setting a positive example as a life-long learner and as a responsible, civic minded citizen is an important component of being an excellent educator.
