Rules, Consequences, and Rewards
(English/Language Arts, Grades 9-12)
Class Rules:
While in this class you are expected to follow these basic rules:
1. Be in your seat, ready to work, when the class bell rings.
2. Bring all required materials to class each day.
3. Follow instructions the first time they are given
4. Participate responsibly in classroom activities and discussions.
5. No cell phones unless expressly permitted by teacher. All phones that can be seen or heard will be confiscated for the remainder of the day (first offense) or the week (second offense). Most kids can’t live that long without their phones, so I don’t anticipate a third offense.
6. I believe in building confidence and responsibility among all my students. Therefore, all students will have a chance to participate in classroom assignments and chores to help maintain a safe and clean environment.
7. Each semester/trimester will conclude with an awards ceremony. I will provide music and bring treats. Awards may include, but are not limited to:
a. Most improved grades
b. 100% attendance
c. Most books read
d. Best speller
e. Best author/writer
f. Best reader
g. Most improved attitude
Consequences:
1. The “Look” (the one and only non-verbal warning to get back to work)
2. Verbal Warning—“Tommy, please.” This is the final chance to follow the rules before consequences are attached.
3. Detention after class
4. Phone call to parent
5. After school/lunch detention with a parent/guardian conference
6. Behavior contract
7. Office referral; possible removal from class
Academic Rewards:
-Free pass on a single homework assignment
